America's Great Hope

Is this a joke? I see the growing infatuation that the American public has with this obscure politician and I think, "is this really what the PRESIDENTIAL election has come down to?" Everybody loves Sarah Palin. Democrats are jumping ship left and right to join the Republicans because of Sarah Palin. McCain's normal idiocy seems to be completely forgiven with his VP pick. McCain no longer has to campaign. All he has to do is bring out Sarah Palin and everyone goes wild. Nobody cares about the issues anymore. Nobody cares about the stumbling economy. Nobody cares about the war in Iraq. Nobody cares about health care. Because somehow, someway, Sarah Palin will fix it all. Magically. Because she will be VP. What?!?! When was the last time a Vice President did anything worth mentioning? Why is everyone so enamored with her? Guess what? If you vote for Palin, you get McCain, too. And he's the one who will actually be doing things. Remember? He's the one running for President. I watched part of a town hall meeting he had in Florida this morning. All he talked about was Sarah Palin and how her husband races 2000 miles across Alaska on a snowmobile. How is this going to fix this country's problems? Doesn't anybody else see it? I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS!!!!! I'm not going to get into her political history (although, I think it's worth looking into if you're unaware. She's not the squeaky clean politician everyone thinks she is). That's irrelevant to the point I'm making. The point is that we are in a campaign to choose the next President of the United States of America. I hope the voting public can wake up and realize that there are way more important things to base your vote on than the person running alongside the candidate.

I watched her speech from the Republican National Convention, and I can see why people like her. She doesn't put you to sleep like McCain, and she's kind of entertaining. I thought to myself, wow, she's a good speaker.

But then I thought, what the crap was she even talking about? You can tell stories and bash Obama all you want, but in the end, you need to tell us how you plan to fix our nation's problems. And she didn't. I'm glad she's pro-life and all that. But honestly, I don't think that's our biggest concern right now.

I felt insulted that I was supposed to be wow'd and inspired by everyone shouting USA! USA! or that I should vote for McCain because Palin can throw out a mean burn on democrats.

I get frustrated with all the hype too.

The whole thing has me very confused as well. I keep hearing the idea that people think she'll be important because McCain is sure to die while in office. Holy cow! Leaving the country up to someone that was mayor over a town smaller than the junior college I went to, and a governor of a state whose population is only about 100,000 more than the city of Denver doesn't scream experience.

I think it'd be great to get a woman in office, but I don't think she's the woman for the job. People seem to be too taken by her face.

I definitely need to spend more time researching both sides, but I haven't heard or read anything about her that makes me think she'd be a good Veep.

Sara told me about a Tina Fey / Amy Poehler SNL skit from this past weekend, and I just watched it on The Tube. It is awesome. Hopefully NBC won't remove it.

And if NBC does pull the clip, I have a "backup" if anyone needs it. :-)

Amen sister.

I actually just watched that clip today. Hilarious! You can also watch it on Hulu.com (thanks Hil!) and it's a higher quality version. I heard about the clip earlier today so I checked Youtube, and the full length versions had been taken off. I agree with everyone else here. Why are people so freaking excited about a woman who has no experience?!?! That's a recipe for disaster if you ask me. A presidential candidate who is a heartbeat away from death, and a VP who wouldn't know how to run the country when (not if, but when) McCain kicks the bucket.

All I can say is, this country is in trouble. I want to get one of those bumper stickers that makes fun of the campaign. "Screwed in '08" So true...

I agree fully Jenni. It is scary that people actually buy into the hype, and ignore her obvious contradictions and lies.

I don't know who you're talking to, but everyone I hear is saying they absolutely hate Palin! In fact, some people are glad he picked her just because they feel people dislike her so much that they won't vote for McCain. Interesting. And it's also pretty obvious that he chose a woman in order to get the 1st woman vs. 1st black man rivalry going again. Hoping to win over the woman supporters.

Jared--thanks for posting the SNL clip. We watched it on Saturday night and Tina Fey was awesome. She and Amy Pohler were hilarious as Palin and Hilary.

Yes, but considering our other options...

I hate it when people talk about politics. But I guess this isn't too weird. I guess. Whenever people come over, they always talk about politics and then we get in a GIANT awkward fight. I hate politics.

What! Am I the only sinner? Am I the only one who watched SNL one Saturday Night? When McCain first announced his VP I thought SNL is going to have a great time with this. I also thought the "if you buy this I have a bridge to sell you in Alaska" quote was pretty cute

Oh & how sis we end up with such a great choice for the Pres.? I am telling you on one hand if Obama had some military experience I would me to feel better about him. I do not want another Bush in there, but it is proven that men who have served in war are far less likely to start a war...much more likely to settle with words then with war…

For a man who has served in a war, and apparently should be reluctant to get in another one, McCain sure talks like a giant neocon hawk, flying around, ready to ruin the world. Of course, knowing the old John McCain, it may all be talk, and he may be more of the centrist politician once he gets in the White House. But there are two things wrong with that. The man is chucking his integrity out the window, and deceiving the population so they elect him on false promises. The second problem is, if he moves to the center once in the White House, that's still way too far to the right for me. He is the pig without lipstick. And Sarah Palin is the pig with lipstick. Molly, you live in a very liberal place where everyone hates her guts, but unfortunately, there are so many people in the US who don't have brains, and they love her. They don't care about her well-documented lies. They don't care about her well-documented hypocrisy. They don't care that she saddled her town of 5,000 people with a $15 million debt when she left office, when they had no debt before she got there. All these idiots across the country care about, is that she is god-fearing, names her kids the stupidest names you could imagine, and hates abortion. So the conservatives are stoked. But the conservatives don't even know why they are conservative. The fact is, whether you hate abortion, accept it, or love it, this election will have zero effect on that. None. Even the Dems are trying to scare women by saying Palin/McCain will appoint judges to overturn Roe v. Wade. Even if all the justices were Antonin Scalia, they wouldn't overturn Roe v. Wade. It will never happen. Abortion is here to stay. If it was miraculously overturned, they'd pass a law to make it legal. It is not going away, and people need to stop voting with it in mind. The bottom line is, Republican presidents always, ALWAYS, increase spending at a higher rate than Democrats. They always say, we'll cut taxes and cut spending. But Dems and Republicans always increase spending. Always. And the irony is, the Republicans always, ALWAYS increase spending at a higher rate than the Dems. I hope I've made that point. So, if you always increase spending, and you always cut taxes, what does that mean? It means you always work from a deficit, and you always increase the national debt. And Republicans always do that. Without fail. They always say the same bald-faced lie that if you cut taxes, it increases revenues, but there is not one economics professor in the country who will back up that claim. Not one. The politicians state it, and their own economists deny it. So a Republican will always drive up the national debt at a higher rate than a Democrat. Always. That's history. And when your national debt keeps rising and rising, the dollar keeps sinking and sinking. And now we suck. But instead, let's vote for Sarah Palin because if she had the power, she wouldn't even let a 15 year old girl get an abortion if she was raped by her uncle. She is a pig with lipstick. Just a pig with lipstick. Sorry I took up so much space, Jenni.

And sorry that was all one big ugly, sometimes ungrammatical paragraph.

mommafriz said...

Matt, so let me see if I get this straight, you have a problem with Sarah? Have you checked out her bridge? That might make all the difference.

Andrea said...

Mom, you are talking to the wrong Matt. Although Jenni's brother is pretty spot on with his assessment. Palin was for the bridge before she was against it. Sound familiar?

Worth mentioning? Are you forgetting that Cheney that dude in the FACE?

Matt,
Thanks for the info. Like I don't know how you feel. I have to hear it every damn Sunday. I just wish Carlisle Cullen would run, with Emmett as his VP. That would make life interesting. Not to mention, I'd be glued to the screen just to look at their faces. I would say I wanted Edward to run, but I don't think he can think of anything else besides Bella. Wish it was me.
